Council asks state delegation to reconsider Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority nominations; motion passes 8–2

Council member Glover moved that the County Council authorize the chairman to send a letter to the Beaufort County legislative delegation asking that they reconsider both nominations to the Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority and forward the council’s recommended candidates to the governor. Miss Howard seconded the motion.

The motion prompted questions seeking the delegation’s rationale; one council member said the public deserved an explanation for why the delegation had rejected the council’s earlier recommendation and framed the letter as an opportunity to improve working partnerships. On roll call the motion passed 8–2. Those recorded as voting no were Mark Lawson and Cunningham; the remaining members voted yes.
