Hazen City approves Harvest Fest street closures and allows small tent on road with repair condition

The Hazen City Commission approved street closures for the upcoming Harvest Fest and gave the fair association permission to place a small tent on the roadway near Hayes and Motors, subject to a repair contingency.

Antoinette, representing the Chamber of Commerce and the Fair Board, told commissioners the festival would use the parking lot for food trucks (temporary power panel installed), operate shuttles and run a parade past Heritage Park ending at the Waterworks Building and Urban Coffee House. She asked for permission to place a small tent on the road adjacent to Hayes and Motors; commissioners stressed that the association must repair any holes afterward or the city would charge for inadequate repairs.

"If any issues, they will be responsible," Antoinette said, describing coordination with public works for barricades, shuttle locations and a hospitality room for bands. The commission discussed anchoring options (stakes, concrete anchors) and cold'mix or core patch methods for repairs; engineer Jared advised that repairs could be fixed while crews were on site.

The commission then voted to approve the requested street closures and the tent request with the contingency that repairs be made to the pavement and inspected by city staff. The motion to approve street closures was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote. The chair also moved a separate motion to allow the tent with the repair contingency; that motion was seconded and carried.

Next steps: Public works and the fair association will coordinate on staging, barricades and a post'event inspection of pavement repairs; the temporary electrical panel will be energized for food vendors.
