Frankfort council approves backhoe and parks deductible, approves right of first refusal; wheel tax passes first reading

The council also took the first reading of Ordinance No. 26-18, an ordinance to establish a wheel tax and a motor vehicle excise surtax for the city of Frankfort. Staff told the council the proposal would not increase the overall tax burden on Frankfort residents but would redistribute wheel-tax revenues currently collected by the county into the city's budget; staff reported clearance from the Indiana BMV and said additional steps remain before second reading. The council voted to pass Ordinance No. 26-18 on first reading and will consider second reading at the next meeting in August.
