The Altenburg District #48 Board of Education on July 10 approved the district's final 2024–25 budget and adopted the 2025–26 salary schedule, voted to accept two fuel vendors for district bus purchases, approved a $7,690 repair to an air-conditioning unit that serves the music/art room and teachers’ lounge, and noted receipt of a Missouri Quality Prekindergarten Local Education Agency (MOQPK-LEA) Grant covering seven students.
Richard Sachs moved, and Cary Roth seconded a motion to approve the final budget for the 2024–2025 school year "as presented." The motion passed 5-0, according to minutes of the open session held in the district's Art/Music room. Later in the meeting, Lindsay Palisch moved and Brittany Hecht seconded adoption of the 2025–26 salary schedule as amended; that motion passed 6-0.
On routine financial business, the board reviewed the treasurer's report and voted to approve July bills. The motion to approve bills passed with a 4-0 tally and one recorded abstention: Richard Sachs was recorded as abstaining. The minutes show the board also accepted fuel bids from River Hills Gas and Go and from Gas A Mat; the motion to accept both vendors passed 4-0 with Board Member Jessica Hecht recorded as abstaining because Gas A Mat submitted a bid. The board directed that bus drivers alternate fill-ups at the two vendors and required drivers to submit receipts by the next business day; staff member Ashley Steffens will maintain a spreadsheet tracking purchases and costs.
Superintendent Debbie Haertling updated the board on summer maintenance tasks and presented out-of-district student information and the 2025–26 enrollment plan. The board reviewed an ESY report submitted by Kimberly Lohmann. Haertling also reported that a representative from Stanley, Dirnberger, Hooper & Associates, LLC will be on campus next week to begin the 2024–25 audit.
In other business, the board approved a motion — moved by Brittany Hecht and seconded by Richard Sachs — to have Obermann's repair an air-conditioning unit that serves the music/art room, teachers’ lounge and hallway for $7,690. That motion was recorded as approved 6-0. Haertling announced the district received the Missouri Quality Prekindergarten Local Education Agency (MOQPK-LEA) Grant for 2025–26 covering seven students; the minutes provide the grant name and the funded student count but do not specify the dollar amount.
The board discussed playground committee updates for both preschool and upper-grade playgrounds and reviewed miscellaneous items including summer school maintenance and the social-emotional learning curriculum in use. The regular session adjourned at 8:47 p.m.; the board then voted to enter a closed session under Missouri statute 610.021(1) RSMo to discuss personnel matters, with roll call recorded as yea for the closed-session motion.
Next steps noted in the minutes include the start of the audit next week and staff follow-up on fuel purchase tracking. The minutes show no public comments were received during the meeting.
