The Altenburg District #48 Board of Education met March 18 in the district Art/Music Room and approved a slate of routine actions including extensions of staff contracts for the 2026–27 school year, an increase to preschool fees, and a contract award for roof repairs.
By motion, the board extended contracts for a group of certified employees (Amy Borowiak, Jennifer Eifert, Kimberly Lohmann, Josey Paar, Luke Ponder, Jessika Ray, Allyson Schnurbusch, Renea Schnurbusch, Macy Slinkard and Timothy Steffens, and Amy Tucker) and multiple non‑certified staff (including Jill Barber, Kimberly Bauer, Kyle Bohnert, Tessa Burroughs, Brenda Doerhoff, Tina Kuntze, Sue Roth, Tom Roth, Val Sachs, Julie Spencer, Ashley Steffens and Kathy Weber). The motion was recorded with a roll-call vote in which Amy Welker and Andew Lichtenegger are recorded as voting yea, Richard Sachs is recorded as abstaining, and other listed members voted in favor as shown in the minutes; the transcript lists the full roster of employees approved for extension.
The board voted to raise preschool fees for 2026–27 to $28 per day, plus $2 for before‑school care and $2 for after‑school care; the motion passed unanimously. Superintendent Debbie Haertling presented the MAP testing schedule and reported projected enrollment of 94 students in grades K–8 for the coming school year.
On facilities, the board accepted a bid from River Hills Construction to repair the roof between the brick building and the old cafeteria; that motion passed unanimously. Haertling also told the board she is preparing an After School Care (SAC) grant application and will submit it when ready.
The board reviewed a letter regarding the Parents as Teachers program from staff member Jill Barber and discussed health insurance options; Haertling reported that she and Dr. Ward have received quotes from Coalter, MO educators Trust and OSBA but did not present a recommendation at the meeting.
The board approved routine items including the treasurer's report review, approval of March bills (with Jessica Hecht recorded as abstaining on that vote), budget outlook and amendments, and the addition of Rachel Lichtenegger to the substitute list (the latter motion passed with one abstention recorded). The open session adjourned at 7:11 p.m., and the board then voted to enter closed session under RSMo 610.021(1) to discuss personnel and legal matters.
The meeting record lists the board members present as Richard Sachs, Jessica Hecht, Lindsay Palisch, Amy Welker, Andew Lichtenegger, and Cary Roth, with Brittany Hecht arriving at 6:40 p.m., and names Debbie Haertling among others as attendees. No public comments were recorded.
