Brundidge council awards $1.499 million wastewater contract, approves aerator repairs and tables control-building bid

The Brundidge City Council on Sept. 16 approved a $1,499,037 contract to Blankenship Contracting, Inc. for Contract 1 — Treatment and Collection System Improvements at the city wastewater treatment plant. Councilmember Gaynor moved the award on the recommendation of the City Engineer; Councilmember Rodgers seconded and all members present voted in favor.

The motion follows a presentation from the City Engineer recommending Blankenship Contracting as the low, responsive bidder for improvements to the treatment and collection systems. The council recorded the contract award amount as $1,499,037 and the vote was unanimous among the four members present (Hall, Ross, Gaynor and Rodgers).

At the same meeting, the council approved a separate Blankenship proposal to provide and install new moorings for all aerators and mixers at the wastewater treatment plant for $55,250. Councilmember Rodgers moved approval and Councilmember Gaynor seconded; the motion carried with all voting yea. The contracts together cover capital and operational work intended to support plant performance.

Councilmembers also addressed Contract 2, the Control Building project for the wastewater plant. Because bids for Contract 2 came in over budget, Councilmember Hall moved to table awarding Contract 2 until additional research and options could be considered. Councilmember Gaynor seconded the motion, which the council adopted unanimously. The council did not set a new timeline for when Contract 2 will return for consideration.

The actions leave Contract 1 and the aerator mooring work authorized to proceed per the awarded and approved amounts, while the city continues to evaluate how to proceed with the Control Building project.
