The Carlisle Cemetery Committee met May 6 in the Parlin Room at Town Hall and reviewed cemetery operations, records issues and a question about signage funding.
James Hall, DPW superintendent, reported the department handled four interments that week and that plots "continue to be sold in advance of the coming increase in fees," according to the committee minutes. The update, given during the operations report, underscored current burial activity as the town prepares to update its fee schedule.
Committee members discussed persistent problems with the cemetery’s records systems. Gretchen Gallimore, assistant town administrator, said the committee is working with material for "Section A 1-40" that appears "upside down and backwards" in a printed book, a formatting or transcription issue the minutes say must be corrected. The minutes also note that the cemetery information management system (CIMS) remains unfinished because staff keep finding missing or incorrect data as they work through records.
The committee agreed the cemetery brochure should be made available online; the minutes state it is currently in PDF form. Members also discussed asking for signage funding after the Town Meeting and raised the question of whether the cemetery fund could be used to pay for signs, but the minutes record no formal decision on that point.
To create a complete archive of the committee’s work, members directed that records be consolidated to the cloud. The minutes state that materials will be forwarded to Gretchen Gallimore, who will perform the upload.
The committee approved the March and April minutes (vote tally not specified). Susan Richardson, the committee secretary who served as chair for the meeting, called the session to a close at 10:55 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3.
