Kenly staff report boosts parks revenue, police activity and improved water quality

At the Jan. 13 Kenly Town Council meeting, department directors provided informational reports on programs, finances and operations.
Parks and Recreation Director Dana Youst said an adult volleyball tournament and long-term travel-ball rentals contributed to revenue of $29,317, or 121% of the target; excluding certain rentals, staff expect nearly $40,000 in total program revenue. A pending $8,000 grant check for a walking trail and sign was noted.
Police Chief James Ayers reported 26 incidents, 10 accidents, 2 arrests and 95 citations over the reporting period, 219 business checks and 133 residential checks, four community holiday events providing food, the promotion of Officer Dixon to Major, and deployment of a new patrol car in November. He also reported a mechanical issue (bad lifters) with one patrol car that staff are addressing.
Public Works reported water-quality improvements downtown: total trihalomethane (THM) levels decreased from 0.109 in August to 0.008, recent valve installations have reduced customer disruptions, and additional valve replacements are planned. Council also discussed the logistics of potentially selling water to the neighboring city of Wilson.
