Hildebran council approves new auditorium projector, flood restoration and $200,000 maintenance amendment

The Town of Hildebran council on Feb. 4 approved a package of repairs and equipment purchases to address damage from a busted pipe that flooded the municipal auditorium basement.
Town Manager Logan Shook told the council he had solicited six audio/video vendors but received a single bid from Stage Rage for a Vivitek laser projector, a 106" x 188" roll-down screen, a white cyc drop screen and related equipment. Council approved the Stage Rage quote not to exceed $33,435.10; the council had earlier authorized up to $32,000 but taxes and added costs pushed the quote above that limit.
The council also approved BlueSky to remove an estimated 220,000 gallons of water and to dehumidify the basement for $5,587.34. After comparing two remediation proposals — BlueSky’s estimate of $33,056.20 (which included floor replacement) and ServPro’s $20,042.40 (which did not include replacing floors) — the council approved BlueSky’s full restoration and mitigation proposal, including replacing floors.
Finance Officer Fredrick Rankins told the council the town would pay remediation costs upfront and seek reimbursement from its insurance provider. To cover general repairs and the auditorium mitigation, the council approved a budget amendment totaling $200,000; Rankins said the sum consisted of roughly $50,000 for general maintenance and $150,000 specifically for auditorium mitigation.
Council approved an LED lighting upgrade for the auditorium basement from Innovative Control Solutions, Inc., to replace 57 existing lamps with LED fixtures for $6,456; the town estimated a Duke Energy rebate of $2,534 on that work. Bill Jones, an HHDA member who helped supply the lighting quote, also urged continued dehumidification and offered details about the museum’s cleanup plan.
Facility maintenance approvals that same evening included carpeting the Burke County deputies’ office in the municipal complex (H&A Carpet of Hickory, Inc., $4,490) and installing approximately 62 feet of 8-foot vinyl-coated chain-link fence at the back of the auditorium (Fister Fence of Hickory, not to exceed $8,256). The council also approved a resolution to surplus and privately sell existing fence sections; the resolution date was amended to Feb. 4.
All motions described above passed by unanimous vote of the members present (Mayor Wendell Hildebran and Council Members Mike Smith, Mike Stroupe and Jody York). Town Manager Logan Shook said staff will pursue insurance reimbursement and return to council with any additional vendor or budget recommendations, including a follow-up on event-budget options for the July 4 celebration.
Next steps: staff will complete the restoration work and pursue insurance reimbursement; the council will consider any further budget amendments or event changes at a future meeting.
