Kenly council approves road closures for MLK Unity Walk on Jan. 20

The Kenly Town Council on Jan. 13 approved Ordinance 2024-09-01 to close multiple streets for a Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Walk scheduled Monday, Jan. 20. Interim Town Manager Tony Sears and an MLK Committee representative outlined the route and timing for the event.
According to the ordinance, affected streets include Railroad Avenue, Darden Street, SR2 and 2nd Street at SR 301. Closures are scheduled between 7:30 and 9:00 a.m., with the march expected at about 8:00 a.m., followed by breakfast and presentations at the American Legion.
Council Member LaWanda Neal moved approval; Council Member Keith Davis seconded. The motion passed unanimously, 4-0. The town will implement the traffic-control measures listed in the ordinance on the specified date.
