The Town of Hildebran Town Council on Feb. 23 authorized replacement of the auditorium’s sound board and approved a programmable auditorium lock while discussing an expanded pavilion at Royal Park.
Town Manager Logan Shook said the town’s previous sound board was submerged during a basement flood. Council Member Ben Honeycutt moved to approve Stage Rage’s quote of $15,605.27 to replace the sound board and related equipment to the town’s prior specification; the motion passed unanimously. Shook said he expects the town’s insurance to reimburse replacement costs, but no insurance payment was confirmed at the meeting.
Council also approved a quote with P.R.E. Security to install a new auditorium lock that staff can code for renters by date or timeframe; the gym lock was excluded from the approved quote on council direction. Council Member Mike Smith moved to approve the auditorium‑only lock quote; all members voted in favor.
On park facilities, Shook explained pavilion plans were previously removed from the main park project so the town could add a pavilion at a later date. Council discussed material choices (wood, steel, iron) and instructed staff to obtain quotes for two larger footprints — 50'x60' and 60'x60' — instead of the original 30'x50' option. Council also asked staff to price a sidewalk behind the concessions building and a dance pad at the stage; a smaller concession‑adjacent pavilion remains an option for the future.
Other items covered in the same portion of the agenda included committee reports and a VEDIC update: Karen Robinson said VEDIC approved a $106,000 loan application and received a $175,000 RBDG grant. Deputy Towery reported staff selected a carpet sample for the Burke County Sheriff's Office space in the municipal complex and council approved proceeding with the chosen sample. Council directed staff to prepare bid specifications for upcoming lawn and snow removal contracts, which expire June 30, 2026.
Next steps: staff to solicit contractor quotes for pavilion options and produce bid specifications for grounds and snow removal contracts; Facilities to coordinate procurement and insurance claims for auditorium equipment.
