Hildebran council approves $3,900 for town events, extends audit deadline and declares flood‑damaged auditorium items surplus

The Town of Hildebran Town Council voted Feb. 23 to approve a $3,900 budget amendment for town events through June 30, 2026, and to amend its audit contract to extend the submission deadline for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025.
Town Manager Logan Shook told the council the revised event budget is smaller than the amount presented last month and that the town’s time capsule opening and the America 250 celebration will now be held at the May Cruise In. Council Member Mike Stroupe moved to approve the amendment for $3,900; the motion passed unanimously.
Council also approved an amendment to the town’s audit contract with Lowdermilk Church & Co., LLP to change the date the audit must be submitted to the Local Government Commission from Dec. 31, 2025, to March 31, 2026, for the year ending June 30, 2025. Council Member Ben Honeycutt moved the contract amendment; all members voted in favor.
The council reviewed a list of items in the auditorium basement damaged by a flood and approved a resolution declaring those items surplus and of no value after staff revised the list to remove a duplicate entry for 50 chairs. Council Member Jody York moved the resolution and it was adopted unanimously.
During public comment, Bill Jones told the council "the radiators in the auditorium basement are leaking" and asked that the Town cap off the lines and remove the radiators. After returning from closed session, Council directed staff to obtain a quote to remove all of the basement radiators; council did not approve removal work at the meeting.
The meeting record notes that Town Manager Shook expects insurance to reimburse replacement costs for items lost in the flood, although council did not receive an insurance determination at the meeting.
Next steps: approved amendments and the resolution were incorporated into the official minutes and attachments; staff was directed to obtain quotes for radiator removal and for required procurement items related to repairs and replacements.
