Kings County designates July 19–25 as Probation Services Week, honors probation employee

The Kings County Board of Supervisors on July 14 recognized Probation Services Week (to be observed July 19–25) and presented an employee of the year award to a probation officer.
Chief Probation Officer Leonard Baker addressed the board to acknowledge the department's mission and to highlight the work probation staff perform balancing accountability and rehabilitation. Baker noted the department's expanded training and community partnerships and asked the board to adopt a resolution designating the week.
Baker announced Graciela Herrera as the department's employee of the year, describing her 10 years of service, work as a senior deputy probation officer and her role as a field training officer. The board members congratulated Herrera and briefly discussed departmental support and a lighthearted request to schedule a pepper‑spray demonstration for interested supervisors.
A supervisor moved the resolution and the board voted to adopt it. The clerk recorded the board's votes and the resolution will be included in the permanent minutes.
