Ladysmith council approves $3,000 payroll portal, closes sidewalk-assessment hearing and hears brief reports

At its Feb. 9 meeting the Common Council of the City of Ladysmith approved a payroll-portal module for the Public Works and Water departments, closing a gap the director described in the way employees record and submit timesheets.
Director of Public Works K. Gorsegner told the council that Public Works and Water employees currently handwrite timesheets; the council voted to approve a $3,000 setup and training fee for the portal. Councilmember Randy Lovely moved the measure and Nathan Johnson seconded; the motion carried by roll call vote (6-yes, 0-no).
Mayor Grotzinger opened and then closed a public hearing on special assessments for curb, gutter and sidewalk repair or replacement after Assistant Director of Public Works D. Parker said he had spoken with many of the affected property owners and answered questions; the minutes do not record additional public testimony.
The council also received a brief report from John Pohlman II on cable service providers in the city; the minutes note the report without providing further detail. Director Gorsegner reported there have been four water-main breaks so far this year and said the Doughty Road repair was needed after bolts on top of a valve corroded away. Councilmember John Kenyon reported that the Ad Hoc Negotiation Committee will meet Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 4:00 p.m., and John Hoover reported a bookstore on Miner Avenue is now open.
The meeting concluded with routine reports, an indication from Administrator Christianson that planned closed sessions were not needed, and adjournment at 5:34 p.m.
