The Town of Milltown board voted March 16 to award Fahrner Asphalt Sealers two road contracts — a crack-seal job for $47,503 and a chip-seal job for $142,601 — for a combined total of $190,104.
Board member Jon Eckel moved to award the work to Fahrner Asphalt Sealers; board member Keith Zygowicz seconded, and the motion passed. The board reviewed competing bids from Seal Tech (Option 1: $55,307.50; Option 2 with poly flex: $66,890), Superior Sealers LLC ($36,472 for crack sealing), Thunder Road ($56,240.73 for crack sealing), and Scott Construction (chip seal $171,286 with town-supplied trap rock; $184,774 with contractor-supplied trap rock).
The board heard the maintenance report from Frank Rau, who said the Maintenance Department has been cutting trees and brush and described a culvert problem near the 190th boat landing where the pipe end sits about 35 feet outside the road right-of-way. Rau estimated the culvert replacement at roughly $5,500, or closer to $10,000 if the 190th Road is redone. The clerk will send letters to affected homeowners so they can speak with Rau about the culvert issue.
Town Chair Mike Dau told the board he had received a call indicating the town may have been awarded a 70/30 state grant for 190th Road work; the town should hear from the state within about 30 days. If the grant is awarded, the town would have two years to complete the work. The board did not specify how the awarded chip-seal contract will be coordinated with the potential grant work; staff follow-up was implied by the maintenance discussion.
The award finalizes the bid selection for crack- and chip-sealing work; the board recorded the motion but did not record individual roll-call votes in the minutes.
