Lake Country School Board adopts 2024-25 budget, sets $5.32M tax levy and approves staff, testing and trip purchases

Chair Peter Maurer and Board member Matt Sherman moved and seconded the adoption of Resolution 1155 to approve the district’s 2024-2025 certified budget; the motion was recorded as carried. The board then approved Resolution 1156 to set the 2024-2025 all-funds tax levy at $5,324,693 and a levy rate of $3.21 per $1,000 of valuation.
In related personnel and program votes, the board authorized administration to hire a 50% special education teacher for the school year under Resolution 1157. The board approved purchase of the NWEA MAP testing program for $6,205.50 under Resolution 1160 and approved an out-of-state field trip for the sixth grade under Resolution 1159.
On another item, the board approved Resolution 1158 authorizing School Perceptions to conduct pre-referendum survey work for an amount not to exceed $13,000. That motion passed with a recorded dissent by Board member Monique Henry. The minutes note the vote as “Action: 3-0 (M Henry - Nay),” which is inconsistent in tally notation; the meeting record names Henry as the sole dissent and is flagged for that inconsistency in the minutes.
Motions, seconders and recorded outcomes were entered in the meeting minutes for each resolution. Where the minutes list vote tallies as "4-0," all members present (Peter Maurer, Matt Sherman, Monique Henry and Steve Maurer) are recorded as supporting those measures.
The measures approved affect district operations and funding for the 2024-25 school year, including instructional assessment tools and staffing for special education. The pre-referendum survey authorization begins work that could inform any future ballot question; the board authorized up to $13,000 for that survey.
