The Village of New Auburn Park Committee voted Feb. 24 to send a proposed amendment to the 2025–2027 Village Park Improvement grant to the Village Board and approved several park purchases intended to support ongoing work at the American Legion Veterans Memorial and adjacent park areas. The committee met at New Auburn Village Hall and adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
Village Treasurer and Deputy Clerk Teresa Dachel presented the committee with a project update, saying the Veterans Memorial project is on track to begin this spring and that Xcel Energy will return to relocate a three-phase line once snow and frost conditions permit. Dachel also reported the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources wetland permit to cover gulley and grant-related work has been submitted and granted, clearing the way for final landscaping tied to recent bathroom construction and the memorial.
Dachel asked the committee to amend the park grant to change trail locations and materials, add two benches, remove and replace sidewalks at the park shelter, add an additional trail and proceed with gulley work and sidewalks leading to the Veterans Memorial and playground. Park Chair Ashley Sarauer moved to send the amendment to the Village Board for final approval; Park Member Gary Pitts seconded. The motion carried unanimously, 4-0.
On park outlay purchases, Dachel sought direction about restroom fixtures and seating. Committee members agreed to buy folding chairs and carts from surplus at no more than $10 per chair instead of replacing cafeteria-style tables. Sarauer moved to approve the park outlay budget as presented; Pitts seconded. The motion passed 4-0.
Park Secretary Shannon Berg moved to appoint Park Chair Ashley Sarauer as the Park Committee’s representative to the Jamboree Days Committee; Vice Chair Tiffany Goodremote seconded. That motion also carried 4-0. The committee scheduled its next meeting for March 24, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. at the New Auburn Village Hall.
Formal actions recorded in the meeting minutes include the grant-amendment referral to the Village Board, approval of the park outlay budget and the appointment of the Park Chair as Jamboree Days representative. The meeting minutes were submitted by Park Secretary Shannon Berg.
