New Auburn trustees discuss call-in/on-call pay options and possible joint committee with school

At the Feb. 12 meeting the New Auburn Board of Trustees reviewed personnel compensation options and a potential intergovernmental committee with the New Auburn School District.
Treasurer-Deputy Clerk Teresa Dachel presented a spreadsheet outlining alternatives for call-in and on-call pay. Call-in options included keeping the current plan, adding a $20 stipend plus regular pay, or paying two hours overtime regardless of response time. On-call options considered a $20 stipend to carry a phone on non-working days and pay at normal response rate, a $20 stipend with two hours guaranteed, or a $10 stipend for a seven-day on-call period with response paid at the normal rate. Trustees noted adopting some of those options would alter overtime budgeting and said overtime should be reserved for emergencies.
Dachel also summarized an informational meeting with Superintendent Heiss, VP Berg and Clerk-Treasurer Allison Hamholm about creating a joint village-school committee to discuss volunteer opportunities for Tech Ed and FFA students and exploring cost-sharing for items such as tennis court renewal. Dachel flagged concerns about compliance with public meeting laws. Trustees agreed to wait until the school board meets Feb. 16, 2026 before taking further action.
No motion to change pay policy or to form the committee was recorded; staff were directed to report back after the school board meeting.
