The Village of New Auburn Planning Commission voted unanimously Jan. 27 to recommend that the Village Board proceed with discontinuing a portion of North Street and a nearby unpaved alley and to combine the affected parcels, pending confirmation of utility locations.
Commissioner Trowbridge moved to make the recommendation; Commissioner McCracken seconded. Chair VP Berg confirmed a quorum of five members — VP Berg, Moos, Trowbridge, McCracken and Boehm — and the motion carried with all in favor and none opposed. Commissioners Lemmons and Sayles were absent.
The action by the commission is a recommendation to the Village Board, not a final policy change. The commission recorded that locating any utilities in the alley must be completed before final discontinuance steps proceed. The item will advance to the Village Board, which will hold a public hearing and consider a resolution at its Feb. 12, 2026 meeting.
The commission also reviewed and approved the minutes from its Sept. 23, 2025 meeting without changes, noted that no members of the public were present for comment, and listed future meeting timing for September 2026 as to be determined. The commission adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
Formal action taken by the commission at this session was the recommendation regarding the public way discontinuance; any final authority for discontinuance rests with the Village Board and is subject to the scheduled public hearing and resolution process.
