Cedar Springs approves parks plan update and new website contract

Cedar Springs — The City Council voted to hire Williams & Works to update the five-year parks and recreation plan for 2027–2031 and approved a separate contract for website modernization and hosting.
City Manager Darla Falcon recommended hiring Williams & Works on an hourly reimbursable basis not to exceed $12,500, saying the updated plan is required to pursue competitive grants and is due by the end of the calendar year. "This is needed. This is very instrumental in receiving grant dollars," Falcon said. Council approved the contract after clarifying that the plan covers the city limits and will be used to align with grant opportunities.
The council also approved a statement of work with CivicPlus for an amount not to exceed $5,198.02 to update and host the city's website. Assistant City Manager Rebecca Johnson said the project includes transitioning the domain to a .gov address for better cybersecurity and will bring the site into ADA compliance ahead of a 2028 deadline.
Both motions were seconded and passed by roll call votes. Council members asked staff to coordinate with neighboring parks-and-recreation groups as appropriate and to include the parks board in steering or advisory roles for the plan update.
What happens next: staff will execute the CivicPlus statement of work and begin the parks-plan update with Williams & Works; the parks plan will be used to support grant applications and is planned to be completed for use during the next grant cycle.
