The reading also noted his role in the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services from 1989 until 2018 and his service representing Bristol and Bridgewater in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2022 to 2024.
"I don't want a legacy," the dedication quoted Carol as saying, adding that he hoped to be remembered simply "as someone who was good to other people and tried to do the right thing." The board praised his mentorship of younger volunteers, his work on emergency planning and coastal oil-spill response, and contributions to town traditions including Memorial Day and Fourth of July events.
Board members and family members joined Carol for photographs and light refreshments after the formal dedication. The board’s recognition included thanks for his decades of service and an invitation to visit and perform for the town in the future.
The presentation concluded before the meeting continued with town-meeting preparations and regular agenda business.
