North Cape board re-elects Hying as president, approves nondiscrimination report and routine financial items

The North Cape School District Board of Education on April 22 reorganized its officers, approved routine financial items and adopted a Pupil Nondiscrimination Report affirming an inclusive educational environment.
Daniel Hying took the oath following his re‑election and trustees approved a slate of officers for the coming term: Hying as president, Tom Henningfeld as vice president, Tom Halter as treasurer and Keith Jacobson as clerk. Trustee Tom Halter moved to approve the slate and the board voted unanimously.
During the meeting staff members Mrs. Bernacki and Mrs. Nielsen shared a series of "Good News" items: North Cape had seven student pieces selected for the Southern Lakes Advanced Learners Network publication; the district placed second overall and first in mixed STEM in the Academic Bowl; and several grade-level projects and trips were announced, including Weather Day at American Family Field, a middle-school zoo trip and a band concert and art show on May 16. "It is always nice to hear the good news from the school," President Hying said. Mrs. Nielsen announced she is retiring at the end of the school year.
The board approved payroll and disbursement checks and moved to adopt the Pupil Nondiscrimination Report; both votes were carried without discussion. Treasurer Tom Halter reviewed the district’s financials and Ms. Hansen will prepare end‑of‑year numbers for the May meeting.
Trustees discussed facility needs, including replacing a well‑house door and addressing a blacktop area where groundwater is surfacing; staff reported debris from a neighboring rental property is blowing onto district land near the well building and said they will follow up, with a possible law‑enforcement contact if warranted. Ms. Hansen said the district is developing digital maps with input from local law enforcement and emergency personnel; Dr. Lehnen and Ms. Witzeling recently attended a risk management session.
The board adjourned into closed session under Wisconsin Statute 19.85(1)(f) to discuss a student discipline matter, reconvened in open session at 6:34 p.m. and then adjourned for the evening.
