North Cape School Board approves ALICE-based school safety plan

The North Cape School District Board of Education unanimously approved an Office of School Safety Plan on Nov. 20 that formalizes the district’s ALICE evacuation procedures, designated rally points and enhanced lockdown protocols.
The motion to approve the written safety plan and the written evaluation of school safety drills was made by Board Member Ryan Menken and seconded by Board Member Tom Halter; the board voted in favor and the motion carried.
Superintendent Dr. Lehnen presented the agenda item as part of the board’s new-business calendar and the board did not record additional discussion or proposed amendments to the plan at the meeting. The approved documents include the district’s written evaluation of recent drills, evacuation and rally-point guidance and specified enhanced lockdown procedures consistent with ALICE training language.
Board members and administrators did not detail implementation timing or training schedules during the public portion of the meeting; the board’s action was recorded as an approval of the written plan and its drill evaluation. Any operational rollout (staff training dates, parent notifications or drill schedules) was not specified in the meeting record.
The board will include the safety plan as part of the district’s standard policy documents and may consider implementation logistics in a future meeting.
