Build Hendersonville program seeks neighborhood capital projects with $25,000 per submission

Brian Pauley, Deputy City Manager for the City of Hendersonville, opened a presentation about Build Hendersonville, calling it “a people driven capital improvement program run by the City of Hendersonville” that invites neighbors, business owners and residents to submit ideas for local capital projects.

Jenny Floyd, a management analyst with the city, said a capital project “is something that has a long lasting impact on the city of Hendersonville” and clarified that such projects create or improve long-term assets and do not include personnel or programmatic costs. City staff said the capital project budget is $25,000 per submission.

City officials offered examples of eligible projects, including improved community spaces such as pavers, wayfinding, benches and trash cans; street improvements like bike lanes, landscaping and crosswalks; and park features such as picnic shelters, walking paths and playground equipment. Floyd added that communities could propose stream restoration or stormwater infrastructure projects, noting the program’s broad scope.

Pauley outlined the selection process, saying submitted projects will be reviewed for feasibility, alignment with the city’s strategic priorities and neighborhood buy-in before any work proceeds. To submit a project, the city said residents may apply online at hvlnc.gov/buildhendersonville or deliver proposals in person at the customer service window at City Hall.

The presentation concluded with a call to action for residents to submit project ideas to help build Hendersonville.
