Shade Tree Commission questions species choices and screening in Werner and Amazon planting plans

The Palmer Township Shade Tree Commission reviewed two developer planting plans on June 11 and recommended clearer compliance with the township's approved tree list and landscape requirements.
Shannon Wisniewski, Shade Tree Commission member, said the contractor responsible for the Werner plan had indicated replacement trees were selected from the approved list, but the Commission identified replacement species that are not on the approved list and agreed to recommend that non‑approved species be removed and that replacements come from the Township’s approved tree list. The Commission noted that the revised clustering approach and overall landscape design were improvements over previous submissions.
On a separate commercial submission described as the Amazon plan, Commission members raised concerns about limited species diversity, missing required landscape trees within paved parking areas, existing trees slated for removal that were not identified for replacement, and the need for additional screening plantings. The Commission agreed to recommend adding at least a third species to increase diversity, replacing all trees removed during construction, installing required trees in paved parking areas per ordinance, selecting species appropriate for trailer clearance, and considering extra screening plantings.
Members asked Planning Department staff to incorporate the Commission’s comments into the plan-review record and to ensure plantings meet ordinance requirements.
