Palmer Township Shade Tree Commission moves ahead with outreach plans and a 20-tree Bare Root Grant request

Shannon Wisniewski, Shade Tree Commission member, told the commission on June 11 that the group will update and reuse a previous "vines and stumps" newsletter article for Q4 (due mid‑September) and forward finalized social media materials for publication.
The Commission discussed outreach venues; Wisniewski said township Community Center staff recommended against hosting a table during summer camp and suggested holding the informational table at the conclusion of summer camp in late August or early September, or alternatively at the library. Pat Romano agreed to develop event structure and goals for future discussion.
Members revisited possible participation in the Bird City Program. Sandi Bush said she was willing to attend initial meetings to gather information but cautioned about workload and ongoing time commitments. Wisniewski said she would notify Township administration of the Commission’s desire to participate.
On grant funding, Wisniewski said a letter of intent for the Bare Root Grant is due June 30 and that the Board of Supervisors will be asked at its June 15 meeting to authorize submission. The Commission intends to request 20 trees for fall 2026 plantings and supported moving forward, citing improved planting techniques that have increased survival rates.
The meeting packet showed no public comments. The commission noted Tree City USA recognition materials had been received and that signage was delivered to Public Works for installation. The group set its next meeting for July 2, 2026.
