On July 14 the Cibolo City Council approved an ordinance calling a special election for Nov. 3, 2026 to ask voters to reauthorize a local sales and use tax of one-quarter of one percent (0.25%) dedicated to street maintenance and repair.
Staff explained the tax is charged in increments of 1/8th of 1% up to 1/4% for street purposes under Section 327.004 of the Texas Tax Code; funds are restricted in a special revenue fund and are separately accounted for. The tax is expected to yield roughly $1.5 million in fiscal year 2027 under current estimates and would continue funding debt payment for prior certificates of obligation and routine street preservation activities.
Council voted to place the ordinance on the agenda and the motion to approve calling the special election passed during the meeting.
The ballot language will be finalized as part of the election ordinance process; staff noted the existing tax is set to expire March 31, 2027 if not reauthorized.
