Board members questioned administration about the timing and funding sources for multiple contract renewals and insurance renewals presented on the consent agenda.
The finance representative (speaker 11) explained which items would come from local funds and which from state or federal sources. “All of your insurances are gonna come out of your local budget,” they said, then added a combined reference: property and additional coverage are "almost $200,000," while student-accident insurance for athletics was identified separately as about $10,000.
Several board members said approving large renewals before the formal budget is adopted creates uncertainty about available local funds and asked staff to produce a breakdown of which contracts/renewals affect the local budget versus state or federal funding. Administration agreed to return a more detailed funding table and said staff and the finance office would meet and report back before the next meeting. Members also discussed options like delaying noncritical renewals, ensuring required contracts (work-order systems, web hosting, student-insurance coverage) remain in place and checking opportunities to bid out services.
What happens next: Finance staff will provide a line-by-line funding-source breakdown for each contract and insurance renewal and will deliver that information at the next board meeting or sooner if possible. The board asked staff to prioritize local-critical items (property insurance, student accident and essential software) when funds are constrained.
