The Hellgate Elementary Board of Trustees met in regular session on July 8, 2024 and approved a bundle of routine personnel and administrative actions, including several hires and resignations, handbook updates and a fund transfer. The board also accepted a three‑year multidistrict agreement with Frenchtown School District and tabled a building boiler contract award pending follow-up information.
Board Chairman Tom McLaughlin presided. The board voted unanimously on every recorded motion. Trustee Rich Thornock moved to approve the minutes of the June 10, 2024 meeting; Trustee Lori Christensen seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. Trustees also unanimously approved the June 2024 warrants and the June 2024 Student Activities Report.
On personnel matters, the board approved hiring Ms. Eliza Gruba as a fourth‑grade teacher for the 2024–2025 school year. The board accepted the resignation of Ms. Kayla Couture, a physical education teacher at Building #3, effective June 7, 2024. The board approved hiring paraprofessionals Ms. Kala Rushing and Ms. Hollee Gossett and accepted resignations from paraprofessionals Ms. Kara Green and Ms. Tracy Heinekamp, effective June 20, 2024.
Trustees unanimously approved the updated Staff Handbook for 2024–2025 (with a requested correction noted on page 87) and the updated Student Handbook for 2024–2025. The board accepted a three‑year multidistrict formal agreement with Frenchtown School District, covering July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2027, intended to foster shared resources and joint programs.
On financial housekeeping, the board authorized a transfer of $66,790.37 from the General Fund #101 to Fund #121 (Compensated Absence Fund), effective June 30, 2024. The board reviewed June 2024 budget reports but took no other budgetary action.
Trustees discussed the bid process for the Building #3 boiler project but voted to table acceptance and awarding of a contract to the recommended bidder until additional information and answers to Trustee questions are provided.
Under House Bill 203 enrollment decisions, the board approved a list of student acceptances for the 2024–2025 school year and, by separate motion, approved a list of denials; the packet contains the full lists. Superintendent Molly Blakely provided an update on the district accreditation process and said she will distribute final reports when available.
Community member Kurt Ingold, representing the Rotary Club and the In‑Tune fundraiser, presented a $3,318.00 donation to support the district’s music programs. There was no public comment otherwise. The meeting adjourned at 6:33 p.m.; the board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for August 12, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.
