Commissioners warn slim margins, say more than 5% in cuts may be needed

But at the same time, it makes me really nervous how slim this margin is.” Another commissioner told the group that the budget is “tough” and said, “there's gonna to have to be some more cuts than just 5% to make this work.”
The discussion also addressed unusual costs: a commissioner raised prisoner medical expenses as a driver of budget pressure. That commissioner asked about contract language and whether staff have authority to declare an emergency and act without prior approval. In reply, a committee member said, “if it's an emergency, we don't we don't ask. We take care of the emergency.”
