Committee recommends expanding banner-fee waivers for nonprofits citywide

The Land Use and Transportation Committee voted July 13 to forward an ordinance that would expand a current banner-permit fee waiver to nonprofit organizations across neighborhood commercial and transit-oriented commercial districts.
Reniel Bejoy, presenting for the sponsor, said the program currently exists in limited districts and cultural areas and that the proposed ordinance would make the fee waiver available citywide to neighborhood merchant associations and other nonprofits that support placemaking. Bejoy said Public Works expects a minimal fiscal impact and noted the example fee of $375 for 20 banners.
There was no public comment at the committee on the proposal. Chair Supervisor Mirna Melgar moved the item to the full Board with a positive recommendation; the clerk recorded three ayes and the motion passed.
The ordinance will be placed on the Board of Supervisors agenda on July 21 unless otherwise advised.
