McLennan County court unanimously extends local disaster declaration after heavy rains

The McLennan County Commissioners Court on June 24, 2026 voted unanimously to extend a local declaration of disaster tied to heavy rainfall and widespread flooding, continuing the declaration through July 28, 2026.

County Judge Scott M. Felton opened the special meeting and called consideration of the disaster extension after Emergency Management Director Ryan Dirker addressed the court on the county's response needs. The written order recites that heavy rainfall beginning on or about June 14, 2026 caused hazardous travel conditions, property and infrastructure damage, and threats to public health and safety across McLennan County.

The order, which cites Section 418.108 of the Texas Government Code, authorizes use of all available county resources, the request for mutual aid and state assistance, activation of the McLennan County Emergency Management Plan, and directs county departments to document damages and disaster-related expenses for potential reimbursement under local, state, and federal programs. The declaration was originally issued by the County Judge on June 17, 2026; the court extended it at the June 24 meeting so it will continue unless further action is taken by the Commissioners Court.

Commissioner Smith moved to approve the extension through July 28, 2026; Commissioner Perry seconded. A vote was called, and County Judge Scott M. Felton, Commissioner Smith, Commissioner Wilson and Commissioner Perry voted in favor. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

The order states it takes effect immediately and will be given prompt and general publicity and filed with the County Clerk as required by law. The court adjourned the special session at approximately 8:05 a.m.
