Lauderdale Lakes plans $205,000 weed harvester purchase with DNR grant support

At the Lauderdale Lakes annual meeting on Sept. 4, Treasurer and aquatic-plant manager Greg Wisniewski reported crews had removed 342 tons of aquatic vegetation through the season and outlined plans to replace equipment.
Wisniewski said the district will take delivery of a new harvester and trailers in spring 2022 at an estimated cost of about $205,000, funded in part by an $89,000 DNR grant and with the balance to be paid from reserve funds. The manufacturer named in the meeting record is Aquarius; the district plans to sell the existing trailer and transport barge and retain the older harvester for occasional use.
The purchase responds to a heavy harvesting year and is intended to maintain safe navigation and recreational access. Wisniewski presented the financial plan to the board during the meeting.
