Board authorizes bids for replacement of aging water-safety boat 449

The Lauderdale Lakes Lake Management District on Nov. 8 voted to solicit bids for replacement options for Water Safety Patrol boat 449, which is roughly 24–25 years old. The board directed separate bids for the hull and for water-patrol outfitting and equipment.
Jeff Angst presented retrofit research estimating roughly $60,000 to overhaul the existing boat with a new outboard to bring it up to like-new condition. Additional quotes obtained for new 19–21-foot boats ranged from about $55,000 to $78,000; outfitting a new boat with lights and a Bellco tower was estimated at an additional $10,000.
The motion to go to bid passed on a motion by Dean Bostrom with a second from Ken Partyka. No final purchase decision was made; the board will review bids and water-patrol requirements when they return.
