Lauderdale Lakes board approves mailed survey on wake surfing, early-morning 10-mph limit

The Lauderdale Lakes Lake Management District approved paying up to half (not to exceed $1,000) of a mailed resident survey with the Lauderdale Lakes Improvement Association to gather views on wake-surfing restrictions, eliminating the 10 mph limit before 9 a.m. on weekends and holidays, and adding water-safety patrol hours.
The Lauderdale Lakes Lake Management District on Nov. 8 approved funding up to 50% (district share not to exceed $1,000) of an attitude-and-interest survey with the Lauderdale Lakes Improvement Association to collect resident views on wake-surfing regulations, whether to remove the 10 mph speed limit before 9 a.m. on weekends and holidays, and whether to add water-safety patrol hours.
Board members said the survey will be mailed to ensure full coverage of the lake’s 1,876 properties because not all residents have email addresses. Ed Stygar was named the district’s representative to the survey committee and will help with question wording. Board members rejected an online-only approach for that reason.
The motion to fund the survey passed on a motion by Don Sukala with a second from Ken Partyka. The board tabled any final decision on changing the 10 mph start time until it reviews survey results.
