Superintendent: staffing shortfalls and summer-school enrollment top 200

At the July 8 meeting Superintendent Kimberly Johnson (S4) told the board she is continuing strategic planning work, regional collaborations and preparations for an AI kickoff, and highlighted personnel challenges: the district is short on candidates for Spanish and English teaching positions and has been actively contacting retired teachers and other candidates to fill openings.
Johnson also reported strong summer-school participation. "We have over 200 kids signed up for summer school this year," said a board member (S3), and Johnson described program variety (hunter safety, babysitting, swim-and-read) and transportation adjustments: staff reduced from two buses to a bus and a van to match demand and lower costs. She said administrators will continue recruiting and aim to inform the board promptly about hiring decisions.
Board members asked that staffing changes and hire decisions be communicated to the full board as they occur. Johnson said postings for open positions remain active through the week and that the administration will follow up with additional candidate information and recommended next steps to the board.
