Prairie View council removes job postings that were not approved in budget

The Prairie View City Council voted on July 13 to remove several job postings that had been created earlier but were never approved in the city’s budget or by council.
Councilmember Mike James moved the action to remove those jobs, saying the postings were not approved and should be taken down. The mayor and staff confirmed the positions were posted while a previous administrator (Mr. Kilpatrick) was in place and that council previously tabled action on the roles. The mayor noted: “No one's been interviewed. These jobs are not jobs that are in [general administration].”
Council discussed whether the roles should be preserved for future budget cycles or removed immediately from public posting. After discussion, a motion to remove positions not approved in the budget or by council was moved and seconded and carried by vote. The city clerk was directed to record the action.
Council did not specify in the meeting record which individual postings would be re-posted in a future budget cycle; members said that hiring and any budget approval would be considered in the next budget process.
