Town tables road bids, discusses culvert and cemetery driveway

The Town of Sullivan board on May 5 tabled action on accepting road bids and discussed several local infrastructure maintenance items, including culvert work and a proposed cemetery driveway.
Andy Bauer told the board he had obtained quotes from three companies for the road projects identified during the recent road inspection and that crews had begun repairing lawns and roadsides damaged by winter plowing. Because the board did not have time to review the bids at the May meeting, it voted to postpone a decision until the June meeting.
Chairman Barry Boos asked Andy to repaint the angle parking lines in front of the bowling alley as parallel parking by first painting over the existing lines in black and then restriping when materials and time allow.
On the culvert project for Circle Drive, Chairman Boos said the board must confirm whether previously received bids remain valid; Supervisor Paul Goeglein suggested asking the contractor who submitted the only bid for the mill headrace whether he would also bid on the culvert work.
The board also considered a proposed driveway at McLeary Cemetery. Supervisor John Kannard said headstones are too close to the proposed driveway area and warned that excavation risk could disturb graves; after discussion the board decided not to proceed with constructing a new driveway.
The board set its next meeting for June 2 at 6:30 p.m., when road bids, culvert bid confirmations and any follow-up on the cemetery item can be revisited.
