The board opened a second session of its July 14 meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and a series of oaths of office for reelected and newly elected members. Several members and family members joined them on stage as each took the oath to serve on the Public Schools of Robeson County Board of Education.
Names sworn included Melissa Davis Ocean, Crystal Monroe and others whose oaths were administered by local judges. After the oath segment the board moved to election items. Nominations for board chair produced two candidates; after a hand vote the board elected John Simmons as board chair by majority. The board then nominated and elected Bradley Fields as vice chair.
Board members thanked outgoing leaders for their service and offered brief remarks about priorities for the coming year, including staffing, student services and the CTE center move‑in. The board then adopted the agenda and took up informational and action items for the evening.
