Mount Vernon — The Mount Vernon City Council voted July 6 to set separate public hearings for July 20, 2026 to receive the engineering report and consider formation of a Mount Vernon EMS District and to solicit public comment on a CDBG Downtown Revitalization grant application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
Council removed the EMS district item from the table and set a new public hearing to begin the formation process under Chapter 357G of the Iowa Code; the meeting record notes the item had been tabled on March 16, 2026 and will be considered again at the July 20 hearing. A motion to set the CDBG hearing for July 20 also carried.
Both hearings are procedural steps that allow the public to review engineering findings and offer comment on the proposed EMS district formation and on the City’s application for CDBG funds. No final action on the EMS district formation or the CDBG application was taken on July 6; both items will return to the council after public input at the scheduled hearings.
