Argyle ISD: Gibson Middle School near completion; board approves meal-price uptick, big purchases and construction-audit RFQ

Argyle ISD trustees on July 13 received detailed updates on Bond 2025 and capital-improvement work — including that Gibson Middle School is in the final punch-list stage and many facilities and athletic projects are on track — and approved several action items related to student nutrition and construction oversight.
Jeff, the district’s construction presenter, told trustees Gibson Middle School is “in the home stretch,” reporting turf installed, cafeteria and stage finishes going in, kitchen equipment largely set and built-in library seating installed. He said the site is generally ready for final inspections and only needs punch-list work and a final clean before occupancy in phases. Jeff also described traffic-management plans: separate bus (West Drive) and parent (East Drive) entrances, single stacking for parent drop-off to maintain emergency access, an estimated 11-bus stacking capacity in the bus loop, and TxDOT-installed school‑zone signals and signage that the presenter said should be in place before school begins.
On action items, the board approved small increases to student nutrition prices for the 2026–27 school year (staff described a required paid-lunch equity calculation): a 10¢ increase for breakfast, a 15¢ increase for lunch at elementary campuses and recommended secondary levels, and a 5¢ increase to the market/deli at the high school. Staff said the nutrition program remains self-sustaining and noted prior use of fund balance to replace equipment.
Trustees also approved purchases above $100,000 related to additional Gibson Middle School FF&E (staff reported an increase of up to $280,000, bringing the FF&E request to $4.4 million of $7.3 million available). The board authorized proceeding as presented.
On construction oversight, staff described an RFQ process to select a construction auditor; five firms responded and R L Townsend and Associates was ranked highest. The board approved the RFQ recommendation and the district plans to bring individual engagement letters for specific projects (the first engagement anticipated for Gibson Middle School). Staff said construction-audit costs will be paid from bond funds and that individual engagement timelines will be specified in engagement letters.
The meeting also included calendar and community announcements (new-staff arrival July 30, convocation Aug. 4, first day of school Aug. 11, stadium opening Aug. 28, and a Scott Gibson Middle School dedication Sept. 2).
