Glendive city councilors reviewed proposed edits to the trailer ordinance and approved sending the revised draft to the city attorney for legal review.
The council considered changes recommended by the ordinance committee that remove a confusing seasonal prohibition on parking wheel trailers and clarify permit rules for construction-related trailers. Under the draft language discussed, construction trailers may obtain a permit via the city website to park at an active construction site for up to 30 consecutive days for a fee set by resolution; the permit must be posted on the trailer. Council staff emphasized that trailers must not block sidewalks or city-owned boulevards.
“Construction related trailers must obtain a permit from the city’s website if they are to be parked on the city street for a period exceeding three days,” the chair said while summarizing the proposed language. Council members discussed templates for permits and whether to combine elements of sample permits provided in the packet; they agreed final formatting could be handled administratively and does not require action at this meeting.
A motion to send the proposed trailer-ordinance changes to the city attorney for legal review was made and seconded (recorded as “Carrie and Jim” in the minutes) and passed by voice vote.
The council did not adopt the ordinance at the meeting; members instructed staff to incorporate any legal edits and return the draft for further consideration. The committee had previously scheduled presentation of the committee’s recommended changes to the full council on May 5 and recommended sending the resulting draft to legal for review.
