Stephens City council reviews sewer repairs, water agreement status and reappoints BZA chair

Stephens City—Town Manager Mike Majher told the Stephens City Town Council on March 5, 2019 that the town sustained wind-related debris requiring extra yard‑waste pickups, that Fairfax waterlines and a collapsed sewer on Newtown Court have been repaired, and that the town has contracted to rehab and line six manholes identified as sources of infiltration into the sewer system.

Majher said the town will offer two additional debris pickups on March 18 and March 22; materials must be bundled or placed in containers for collection. He also said the town has met with engineers about repair and replacement of the Mulberry sewer main and is beginning to receive proposals for a more intensive infiltration-and-inflow (I&I) study of the town's sewer system. Majher added that business-license late notices will go out and that the town office will receive a new phone system.

Vice Mayor Jason Nauman raised an unrelated but operational concern about a pending agreement with Frederick Water, saying there is not yet a final approved agreement and that the town has reached out to schedule another meeting to resolve outstanding issues.

On personnel matters, the council reappointed Wiley Dembeck to the Board of Zoning Appeals after a motion from Councilman Ronald Bowers; the minutes record ayes from the council members listed. Councilman Linden Fravel Jr. moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:30 p.m.; the motion carried unanimously.

No formal votes on budgets or contracts were taken at the meeting; council actions at this session were limited to approvals and appointments recorded in the minutes.
