Sheridan’s Well 7 project nears completion; town water system now backed by emergency power

Public Works Director Curtis Green told the council on Dec. 8 that crews are rehabbing the lagoon fence ahead of winter and reviewed cost estimates for fencing: roughly $17,000 for two barbed-wire fences and about $75,000 for a full security fence (about $50,000 of that estimate accounted for materials). He suggested an elk fence as a lower-cost option for immediate protection.

Curtis reported the highway boring work outside of town is complete and that meter pits for three new services on a 61-acre parcel will begin installation. Mayor Robert Stump and Curtis also discussed naming and assigning addresses for the new Lagoona Lane/Drive and the lagoon site, with a potential address of 3400 Hwy 287 mentioned for the Lagoona driveway.

Bob reported the Well 7 project, which began in 2022, is days from completion and that the town’s entire water system (wells, tanks, and wastewater system) now has emergency power so the town would maintain water service during a power failure. The council also heard earlier in the meeting from Triple Tree Engineering about an isolation valve (to protect a tank from draining during a main break) and a temporary chlorination system; the firm said estimates for an isolation valve would be available by the end of the week.

Councilors discussed budget context during the consent agenda: Bob reported the town has about $12,000 in remaining reimbursements tied to the Well 7 project and roughly $80,000 in the related fund. No formal additional funding decisions for fences or security were made at the meeting.
