The Florence City Council voted unanimously on June 15 to enter into an agreement with Graves Consulting for a citywide compensation study intended to analyze market wages and support pay equity.
Councilor Mergelman moved to remove item 5c from the consent agenda to allow a fuller discussion; City Manager Lori Cobler described the proposal as a routine government practice that would analyze wages for equity and competitiveness. Councilor Stiefel expressed support for the study and its importance; Councilor MacKinnon confirmed the compensation survey would be completed prior to 2027 budget work. After discussion, Councilor Stiefel moved to approve the agreement with Graves Consulting, Councilor Vanhoutan seconded, and the motion passed 7–0.
City officials said the study would inform pay-range modifications and budget planning. The Council discussed timelines and the possible need for a work session to review study details prior to formal budget decisions.
