Stephens City council hears operational updates; resident thanks town for brush pickup

Stephens City officials used their April 2 council meeting to update residents on public‑works operations, utility notices and upcoming community events, and to record a public request to continue a brush‑pickup service provided in March.
Town Manager Mike Majher reported that Town Treasurer Steve Rickards is recovering from an accident. Majher said Public Works has been conducting INI and manhole inspections, will perform grading and repairs on Walnut Lane, and will repair a small water‑line break at the end of Steele Court. He also reported that Commons Park was being prepared for the Newtown Heritage Festival and that the Beautification Board is planting flowers around town. A brick sidewalk for the Veterans Memorial is planned for installation before Veterans Day.
In public comment, Mrs. Dana Culp of Main Street Stephens City thanked the town for providing brush pickup in March and asked the council to provide the service again. "Thank you for providing the brush service pick up for the month of March," the minutes record Ms. Culp saying; she requested the town provide the service again in the future.
Police Chief Charles Bockey Jr. reported that Sgt. Scott Baber "did a fantastic job" handling departmental matters in his absence and said the department had borrowed a speed‑measurement sign from Middleburg Police to deter speeding while staff evaluate the cost of purchasing their own device.
Council approved routine committee minutes and meeting minutes during the same meeting and adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
