Stephens City council names Jason Nauman vice mayor and confirms town appointments

At its Jan. 8 meeting, the Stephens City Town Council administered oaths to re-elected council members and confirmed several town appointments and reappointments.
The Frederick County Clerk's Office administered oaths to re-elected councilors Regina Swygert-Smith, Jason Nauman and Linden Fravel Jr. The council considered and approved a slate of town official appointments: Town Manager Mike Majher, Town Treasurer Steve Rickards, Town Clerk Michele Stone, Chief of Police Charles Bockey and Town Attorney J. David Griffin. Councilman Joseph Hollis moved to approve the appointments; the motion carried with recorded ayes from Bowers, Fravel, Hollis, Nauman, Swygert-Smith and Thatcher.
Fire Chief John Jones reported that the Stephens City Volunteer Fire Department responded to 2,274 emergency calls in 2018 and requested approval of reappointments for operational, EMS, safety and administrative officers and the board of directors; Councilman Jason Nauman moved to approve and the motion passed by recorded vote.
Vice Mayor Ronald Bowers nominated Councilman Jason Nauman to serve as vice mayor; Nauman accepted the nomination and the council voted to approve the appointment. The council also approved committee and commission assignments.
Why it matters: the oaths and confirmations set the town's leadership and administrative continuity for the coming term, and the fire department reappointments maintain operational leadership after a busy 2018.
