The mayor described why the resolution matters to the town, noting that North Beach receives little to no direct sales-tax revenue despite being a tourism destination. "A 1¢ could be roughly ballpark $500 to $700,000," the mayor said, explaining that small percentage changes in state revenue allocation can have a meaningful impact on town services.
Council discussion called out other revenue pressures, including fluctuating highway-user revenues as vehicle fleets shift to electric vehicles and the potential for new state fees. One councilmember suggested a minor drafting correction to the legislative contact paragraph so the transmitted copies go to the correct district delegates and senators.
After debate and the clerical correction, the council called the question and approved the resolution by voice vote. The resolution directs staff to transmit copies to the appropriate state legislators in support of convening the task force.
