The Monroe Plan Commission unanimously recommended that the common council take up the final 2025–2029 Parks and Open Space Plan on Jan. 8, after a brief presentation by Parks Supervisor Forrest Tramey.
Tramey told commissioners the draft plan was returned to the Parks and Recreation Commission and that the document brought back for recommendation included no changes since the draft: "Since I was last there a month ago, we did not have any, changes to that draft." He emphasized that approval at this stage is only a recommendation to the council and does not include any financial or capital approvals; specific projects and funding would return to the appropriate committees and the council for separate approval.
After a short discussion, a commissioner moved, another seconded, and the plan commission voted by roll call to recommend the Parks and Open Space Plan to the common council. The clerk recorded unanimous “aye” votes.
The plan is intended to serve as a guide for parks planning and recreational opportunities through 2029; any individual capital projects, spending or development actions identified in the plan will require subsequent committee and council approvals.
