During the public-comment portion of the Jan. 2 meeting, resident Robert Ihrig raised concerns about a likely increase in vehicle traffic through Clifton tied to Fairfax County's planned expansion of Shirley Gate Road. Representatives Hall Moore and Donna McGrath of Protect the Occoquan asked the council to support a proposed amendment to the State Uniform Building Code and to back legislation regarding well water; they also asked the council to send a letter to the Commonwealth Transportation Board and the Northern Virginia Transportation Board requesting an updated traffic study for the area.
Councilmember Wayne Nickum moved to authorize Mayor Bill Hollaway to revise and send the draft letter to the transportation boards; Councilmember Darrell Poe seconded. The motion was approved by poll vote, 6-0.
Separately, Laura Cohen reported that customers had complained about vehicles 'bottoming out' when exiting the Pink House parking lot. Councilmember Melissa Milne and Belle Jar were assigned to obtain cost estimates and pursue gravel installation as a remedy, per meeting notes.
